Fall River man sentenced in undercover state police fentanyl sale

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man has been sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to fentanyl trafficking charges stemming from a January incident in Somerset.

Devonta Davis, 31, entered the plea on October 20 in Fall River Superior Court and received a sentence of four to six years in state prison.

The incident occurred on January 30, when an undercover Massachusetts State Police trooper arranged to buy 100 grams of fentanyl from Davis.

Davis arrived at a Somerset motel, and after seeing the trooper’s badge, fled on foot.

He also attempted to discard a large bag of white powder.

Davis fell to the ground while attempting to flee the scene and was taken into custody a short distance from the bag.

Upon testing, the powder was confirmed to be 97.8 grams of fentanyl.
