A Fall River man was sentenced to prison on Thursday afternoon for assaulting his girlfriend with a guitar on February 10th.
According to officials, 34-year-old Casey Miller was sentenced to serve two to four years in state prison this week after being convicted of assaulting his girlfriend with a guitar.
On February 10th, Miller was belligerent and violent after being out at a city bar.
He began destroying items inside his house after returning from the bar.
Miller then took a guitar and smashed it over his girlfriend’s head and punched her in the face.
Police were dispatched to the couple’s home and found pieces of the guitar in the victim’s head.
Miller’s girlfriend was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where she received staples on her head due to the severity of the attack.
Miller submitted an “unagreed plea” before Superior Court Judge Robert T. Kane Tuesday in Fall River Superior Court.
Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn argued that Mr. Miller should serve two-and-a-half years to five years in state prison due to the egregiousness of the crime.
His defense attorney, however, argued for probation.
Judge Kane sentenced the defendant to serve two to four years in state prison, to be followed by two years of supervised probation.
The terms of his probation include having no contact with the victim, submit to random drug and alcohol screening, complete an inpatient addiction program, and undergo domestic violence counseling.
“I am satisfied that this Defendant was held accountable for his outrageous behavior with the imposition of a State Prison sentence. I requested this case be brought to superior court because of the ‘barbaric’ nature of the assault on the victim,” said District Attorney Quinn.
