Fall River police bodycam footage shows fatal police-involved shooting

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Police Department released body camera footage on Tuesday showing the moments a man shot at police and was then shot by officers.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said the man died after being taken to a local hospital for treatment.

He was identified as 38-year-old Domonick Knight.

Around 1:30 a.m. police said officers responded to multiple calls from family members reporting a man was “expressing suicidal ideations” and possessed a firearm.

Police immediately secured the area and began evacuating both residents in the area and family members inside the house.

Medical personnel were called to the scene as family members continued to report the man’s “intent to harm himself,” police said.

Around 2:25 a.m., a crisis negotiator responded and attempted to communicate with Knight through phone calls, text messages, and a loudspeaker, but the attempts were unsuccessful, police said.

Fall River Police Departments’ Emergency Services Unit arrived just before 2:45 a.m. to assist in the attempts to communicate with Knight.

After almost an hour of unsuccessful attempts, ESU breached the front door around 3:15 a.m., according to Fall River police.

Police said Knight then fired at the officers from the top of the stairs, causing police to fire back and move away from the entryway.

Around 3:18 a.m., Fall River police said officers located Knight at the top of the stairs, and said he was found in possession of a rifle equipped with a drum magazine “beneath his body and a handgun near his hand.”

Fall River police provided this image from a body camera, showing a gun next to a man shot by police on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Police said Knight appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the side of his head and was taken into custody.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said two guns were found “within close proximity of Mr. Knight.”

Knight was taken to the hospital but died there.

The incident remains under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.
