Fall River police rescue man from frigid Taunton River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Several Fall River police officers rushed to rescue a man from the Taunton River near Battleship Cove Tuesday night.
The man was located on the rocks in the water behind the Heritage State Park visitor’s center at approximately 6:45 p.m.
The man was showing signs of hypothermia and a coordinated rescue effort began.
One officer jumped off the boardwalk to reach the man and secured a rope around his torso, and several other officers pulling him onto the boardwalk.
He was then carried a quarter of a mile to nearby paramedics and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
According to Fall River police, the man jumped into the river in an apparent suicide attempt.
