Fall River woman pleads guilty to stealing $86,000 of own child’s Social Security benefits
BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River woman has pleaded guilty in Boston federal court to stealing $86,994.58 in Social Security benefits intended for her own minor child.
Nancy Taylor, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of public funds after being indicted in April of 2024.
From May 2016- May 2022, Taylor embezzled the money after applying to receive the benefits as her child’s representative payee.
She was told to notify the Social Security Administration if the child left her custody.
She lost custody in 2016 and did not notify SSA.
Taylor called SSA in 2021 to update contact information to continue receiving the benefits.
She provided two fraudulent forms at this time stating that her child still lived with her and used the vast majority of the money to pay personal expenses.
Taylor will be sentenced on May 12.
