Fans cheer on Smithfield Little League at restaurant viewing party

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Trap North in Smithfield was packed with fans cheering on the Smithfield Little League on Wednesday for the restaurant’s viewing party.

The Trap raffled off prizes in between innings. The restaurant also matched every $2 of each pretzel sold and is donating it to the team’s trip in Williamsport.

Trap’s efforts are just one of the way the town has been rallying around the Little Leaguers.

There was also a pep rally fundraiser held at Deerfield Park on Monday.

Tuesday, we were at Laura’s Bar and Grill for their specialty drink menu with proceeds going to the team.

One of the servers at The Trap, Riley Chartier, went to the Little League League World Series for softball when she was younger and knows all too well how the 12-year-old all stars were feeling.

“I am so excited for them, because I was once in their position and I went to the World Series when I was 14, so it’s a really exciting feeling and I’m really happy for them,” said Chartier. “It’s not a cheap trip and it’s exciting to know that there’s people behind them, rooting for them, and kind of funding them and helping them along the way.”

The Trap donated $2,000 to the team earlier this week by being one of the grand slam sponsors at Monday’s pep rally.
