An Australian father and son, who set sail from Rhode Island, had to be rescued after their sailboat ran into trouble during the weekend storm. The Coastguard says the men were picked up by helicopter about 140 miles off of Nantucket.
The sailors called for help around 5 AM Sunday when the 43–foot boat lost power and had its sails torn. Extreme winds made the rescue difficult.
No one was injured, but both father and son were taken to the hospital to be evaluated for hypothermia.
‘The Sedona’ had launched from Rhode Island and was bound for Australia.
