The FBI raided a Middle Eastern market in Providence Wednesday. Agents spent several hours inside the store.
A worker tells ABC6 she thought it was a joke at first until the FBI agents showed them a warrant–what they were looking for is still a mystery.
Federal investigators were seen going in and out of the Oasis Market and Grill all afternoon. The police presence at the Broad Street business attracted a lot of attention.
"I don’t know. I can’t figure it out. There’s something going on. Something crooked, I guess," says Danny Coroa, who works next door.
The FBI tells ABC6 they were conducting court authorized activity in connection to a federal investigation, but due to the ongoing nature, would not comment any further.
"They are nice neighbors. I’ve never heard anything about them. This is really a surprise to me," says one nearby business owner, who says the Oasis Grill has been in the neighborhood for years and popular with customers.
"Very nice guy. Never been in trouble? No. Never ever. He owns other businesses too," he continued.
"I just see him outside. They say hi and that’s it. We don’t even talk," said Coroa.
The FBI eventually left carrying a box shortly before 3 p.m.
