Four Massachusetts State Troopers facing charges for years long bribery scheme
BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Six people, including four current and former Massachusetts State Police troopers, are facing charges of extortion, conspiracy and falsification of records, among other charges.
The troopers are members of the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Driver Licensing Unit (CDL) and are accused of receiving unsanctioned condensed training in commercial vehicle operation.
They are also accused of receiving their CDL licenses outside of the regular comprehensive training process.
Several CDL test applicants were also found to receive passing scores from two former unit members, even though no test had been administered.
According to federal investigators, the defendants were given bribes in exchange for guaranteed passing scores to commercial driver’s license applicants.
The acting District Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua Levy said kickbacks included a 10-thousand-dollar driveway makeover and a two-thousand-dollar snowblower, among other items.
“The Department condemns the actions of the four current and former CDL Unit members as alleged in the federal indictment and our internal affairs investigation,” said Colonel John Mawn Jr., Interim Superintendent. “The alleged misconduct of those defendants is the antithesis of and in stark contrast to the values, character and integrity exhibited by the overwhelming majority of our Troopers every day in service to the public.”
The indictment found the troopers started this back in 2018, and the six people involved are facing a total of 74 counts across the indictment.
