FEMA sets up Disaster Recovery Center in Attleboro after September storms
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — A new Disaster Recovery Center is now open at Bristol Community College in Attleboro.
Help is on-site to assist residents from the severe storms and flooding that took place from September 11 through 13.
The severe storms made roads look like rivers, and trees toppled across cars.
There was extensive damage to many homes and businesses.
“I was working at Walmart at the time,” Steve Goff, a local resident, said. “And the water was up so high because of the rain…Walmart was blacked out and we had no power.”
“For six hours we had no power and we had to throw away everything in the store,” Goff added.
Now, nearly $2 million has been given amount in the form of loans by FEMA.
FEMA is providing financial help for those who suffered losses from flooding, whether it’s for a home, personal property, or a car.
“We can give you the answers to questions you have, that’s normal,” Lorraine Valle Rodriguez, a FEMA spokesperson, said. “In this case, we are talking about floods from last year. If you got damage and already repaired the area, you can get reimbursed.”
So far, the specialists on site said over 500 people have registered for FEMA relief.
If you cannot go in person to the recovery center, you can also register online, by phone, or by using the FEMA app.
The recovery site is open every day, 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. except Sundays.
