Feral cat with rabies found in Woonsocket

The cat tested positive for rabies and was euthanized. He was a thin brown tabby who lived in a feral colony.
If anyone has had physical contact with the cat or any cats in that area they should contact the Health Department immediately at 401-222-2577.
If anyone has a pet that may have come in contact with this cat or any cat they should contact Woonsocket Animal Control at 401-766-6571 or the Woonsocket Police department at 401-766-1212.
The Health department and DEM are advising people to take the following steps to stay safe:
- Keep all pet vaccinations up to date.
- Avoid touching stray animals
- Don’t feed stray animals.
- Don’t feed your pets outside.
- Always keep your pets on a leash for their protection.
- Report any bites to Animal Control.
- Cover all garbage cans so animals can’t look for food.
