Field declares victory in State House special election

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE)– Democratic candidate and union organizer Lisa Field declared victory in the Tuesday special election to replace former Massachusetts state representative Carol Doherty in the 3rd Bristol District of the House of Representatives.

At the end of counting, Field led Republican candidate and Taunton city councilor Larry Quintal by 21 votes.

The 3rd Bristol District includes both Taunton and Easton.

According to the Taunton Gazette, Quintal received more votes in Taunton than Field, but Field’s margin in Easton was enough for her to keep the lead.

Quintal has not conceded and has said that he will be seeking a recount.

The seat became open after Doherty died of pancreatic cancer in February.
