Fire at commercial building in Pawtucket reignites hours after flames broke out
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A building fire in Pawtucket reignited after keeping firefighters busy into the night on Thanksgiving.
Several surrounding fire departments assisted Pawtucket crews at the fire at ABC Supply Company on Beverage Hill Avenue.
Flames broke out around 2 p.m. in the back of the building.
The fire sent dark smoke into the sky, which could be seen from miles away.
Fire officials told ABC 6 News that water supply was an issue while trying to knock the fire down.
“On arrival we had a significant amount of fire in the rear of the building that involved a large amount of building materials,” said Battalion Chief David Cairrao. “We had water supply problems getting water supply to and water onto the fire. Along with the wind the fire was able to grow it did extend inside the building.”
Firefighters were still trying to fully diminish the fire when it reignited around 8 p.m.
Fire officials said the large amount of building materials had melted together, and continually re-hardened as firefighters hit it with water.
Crews remained on scene as late as 6 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
