PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Several people were displaced after a fire tore through a multi-family home in Pawtucket.

The Red Cross is assisting three people, of two families, after the fire broke out at a Pidge Avenue home Tuesday night.

Fire Chief John Trenteseaux said that because of the cold weather this time of year, people should be careful running electrical appliances.

“You just got to be careful not to overload extension cords,” he told ABC 6 News on scene.

He said many fires are caused by too many electronics plugged into too small of an extension cord, especially with heaters in the winter months.

“Try not to use extension cords, go right to the outlets, power strips are bad, you’ve just got to be cautious with the electrical,” Trenteseaux said.

No injuries were reported, but one cat died in the fire.
