CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Firefighters were called in just after 8p.m. Monday night to flames bursting through a multifamily home in Cranston.

It was a joint effort to battle the blaze on Elmwood Avenue with Cranston, Providence, and Warwick Firefighters assisting.

Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins said it appears the fire started in the third floor bathroom.

Families on the first and third floor were home when the fire broke out, but everyone made it out safely.

According to Mayor Hopkins, the owners did not have rental insurance.

Three families were displaced due to the fire, and Red Cross is stepping in to help the these families get a place to stay in the meantime.

Investigation shows that the fire may have been an electrical issue.
