Update: Family displaced by Coventry house fire gets huge response from community

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A family of three displaced by a Coventry house fire have received a huge boost from the community.

A GoFundMe intended to raise $10,000 for the family has collected nearly $12,000 from 98 donors since the fire on Tuesday.

Fire crews responded to the fire on Marie Drive in Coventry Tuesday morning.

Crews from both Coventry and West Warwick came to the scene to assist in fighting the blaze.

The family of three, a father, mother and child as well as pets were able to get out of the house safely.

According to Chief Frank Brown of Hopkins Hills/Central Coventry Fire District, a neighbor heard a loud sound around 9 a.m., and they then saw the house on fire.

The fire was contained and put out in about 15 minutes.

A live electrical wire came down during the course of the fire.

The house is as a single story ranch with no basement, and the fire was a difficult one to fight due to the large number of rooms in the home.

The house is being described as a total loss.

Video and photos from ABC6 crews show the front of the house to be heavily damaged, along with a vehicle.

It is believed that the fire started with one of the vehicles and then spread to the house.
