Providence, R.I. (WLNE)- A fire has left a three-unit apartment building in Providence uninhabitable.
The fire broke out on the second-story porch of an apartment located in the 100 block of Hudson Street. It happened just after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they had to work quickly to contain the fire. Strong winds were pushing flames towards neighboring homes.
“Companies made a very aggressive attack. They knocked down the exterior flames, and the neighboring building was no longer threatened,” said Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Houle
Firefighters arrived on the scene as winds pushed flames toward neighboring homes.
Five residents were home when the fire started; all escaped without injury.
A neighbor who saw the fire start notified officials of the incident using a firebox on the street.
“By the time I got outside to ring the firebox button the whole porch was on fire,” said witness Emely Chuluc. “It was scary for me.”
Despite a rapid response time and aggressive attack from Providence firefighters, residents will be displaced for the time being.
“It’s not habitable,” said Houle. “There’s nobody staying there tonight.”
