Fire in Providence displaces 3 families

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Three families are without a home Wednesday night after a fire broke out in the second floor of an apartment building.

Crews were called to Florence Street around 4 p.m., and were met with fire on the second floor. According to Battalion Chief Joe Paiva, all residents were able to self-evacuate from the home.

There was minor extension of the fire but crews were able to put it out quickly.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury while fighting the fire and are expected to recover.

Paiva estimated about nine adults and three children are displaced after the fire and the Red Cross was called for assistance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Providence Fire Department.
