Fire marshal: Matunuck Oyster Bar fire cause still undetermined
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — One month after a fire closed Matunuck Oyster Bar, the Office of the State Fire Marshal said it is still investigating the cause.
A spokesperson for the fire marshal told ABC6 News Friday the cause remains undetermined.
The fire on May 20 caused significant damage to the popular restaurant.
In a statement on May 22, the state fire marshal said preliminary indications pointed to an accidental cause.
Other businesses have since rallied to help Matunuck employees find work for the summer.
The Rhode Island General Assembly also passed legislation on June 18 that would allow the business to partially reopen for outdoor dining in a parking lot across the street.
That would allow 50 employees to return to work, according to a spokesperson for the General Assembly.
