A fire tore through a house in Attleboro early Monday morning

Fire officials say a cigarette is most likely to blame after a resident of the home on East Bacon Street admitted to improperly extinguishing it.

There was heavy damage to the second floor where much of the roof collapsed. The three people living inside were able to make it out safely.

Two firefighters have minor injures, one of them was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The fire remains under investigation.
