Fire tears through Providence homes, leaving 8 displaced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two Providence homes are uninhabitable after a fire ripped through them Tuesday night.

Smoke engulfed the neighborhood as flames tore through two houses on Indiana Avenue.

An ABC 6 News observed the aftermath Wednesday morning and saw most of the exterior damage is on the top floor of one of the homes. The flames extended to the roof and siding of the home next door.

The Red Cross is assisting two families, seven adults and three children.

Fire officials said it took about 60 firefighters hours to get the fire under control due to mechanical and water pump issues.

No one was hurt, but both homes were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
