Firefighter hospitalized after structure fire in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Fire Department said a firefighter was hospitalized after a structure fire on Sept. 22.
According to the department, firefighters responded to an alarm activation at P&J Cleaners on County Street around 7:20 p.m..
Upon arrival, crews did not find any signs of fire on the outside of the building, but once inside, discovered heavy smoke.
After additional crews were called in to assist with the fire, firefighters were able to locate the fire and extinguish the flames.
The department added that the building’s sprinkler system helped contain the fire prior to their arrival.
One firefighter was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for a “medical issue” and transferred to Charlton Memorial Hospital, according to the New Bedford Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
