WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) Firefighters battled a brush fire on Old Harbor Road Tuesday.

The Westport Fire Department said that the fire “did not cover a large area,” but required a “time consuming overhaul” due to fallen trees, brush piles, and sloped terrain.

The flames were put out, and firefighters ensured all hotspots were extinguished.

Off-duty firefighters and Little Compton firefighters were called in to assist.

The Westport Fire Department is reminding residents that the Massachusetts open burning season ended on May 1.
