Firefighters battle Christmas Eve house fire in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Waltham Fire Department responded to a home on Christmas Eve after a fire broke out in its basement.
Our sister station in Boston, WCVB Channel 5 reports that firefighters got the call for the fire on Barbara Road around 6:45 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters said the blaze was mostly contained to the basement of the home but the rest of the building sustained smoke damage.
The homeowner said he was away visiting family in Andover, Mass. when the fire broke out.
Firefighters were also able to save some of the Christmas presents inside the home from the flames.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal.
