Multi-family home on Armington Ave. in Providence total loss after fire
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A multi-family home is now a total loss after a fire tore through it Friday evening.
The Providence Fire Department responded to a call for a fire around 6:35 p.m. Steve Capracotta, Deputy Assistant Chief of the Providence Fire Department, said when crews arrived fire was “blowing out” of the second floor windows.
One resident was rescued from the second floor by fire crews and was able to get down via ladder. His condition is not known, as he reportedly left the scene.
Two firefighters were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for smoke inhalation and exhaustion. There were no injuries otherwise.
Deputy Assistant Chief Capracotta said five dogs were taken out of the building. Two were saved and three had died. Fire crews got reports of three more dogs still inside the house in cages, which Capracotta presumed have also perished.
Capracotta said the flames got inside the walls. The outside of the house was constructed with asphalt siding, which Chief Capracotta said is highly flammable, making the crews’ work much harder.
Multiple surrounding cities also responded.
Crews say the home is a total loss.
