NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Crews responded to a vacant house fire on Eddie Dowling Highway in North Smithfield yesterday.

According to Chief David Chartier, the fire appeared to have started on the first floor of the two-story vacant home.

When officials arrived, firefighters encountered heavy fire on the first floor but were able to quickly knock it down.

Chartier also said that the fire was equivalent to a two alarm fire because there is no municipal water in the area, and because of the cold weather conditions.

There were no injuries.

Local and state fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

Woonsocket, Burrillville, Blackstone, Lincoln and Smithfield also assisted North Smithfield in the response.
