Firefighters injured battle house fire in Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Two firefighters are recovering, and a Woonsocket couple is out of their home after a fire started in their kitchen.
Firefighters responded to a single family home on North Main Street, just before 2:00 am.
They say the couple’s smoke detector may not have gone off, as a neighbor called in the blaze.
Luckily the occupants and their cats were able to escape unharmed.
“Initially upon arrival there was very heavy fire in the rear part of the building,” said Chief Paul Shatraw with the Woonsocket Fire Department.
“Its good that the occupants were alerted and were able to get out of that building.”
Two firefighters were sent to the hospital with minor injuries – one treated for dehydration, the other a sprained ankle.
Both of them are okay and recovering.
