Firefighters pull woman from burning home in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A woman was pulled from a burning home on Louisa Street Sunday afternoon.
Fire crews responded to the single-family home just after 2 p.m. Deputy Assistant Chief Brian Mahoney told ABC6 the cause of the fire is under investigation, and a 28-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital. Fire officials say the woman was unconscious but breathing.
“We searched the entire building that’s the only person that was in the building,” the Deputy Asst. Chief told ABC6 News.
The 2-alarm fire sent dozens of fire crews to the scene.
One neighbor spoke with ABC6 News, after he acted on impulse and ran into the burning building to try to rescue whoever was inside.
Troy Cable said he was home and saw heavy smoke coming out of the house, and immediately sprung into action.
“I kicked the door in, almost fell because of the ice the first time, then the second time, the door went in and I searched the first floor quick nobody was down there. I was yelling, nobody answered,” Cable told ABC6 News.
“I went upstairs and the smoke was so bad I couldn’t make it past the top step and retreated out because they were yelling at me to get out.”
Cable said minutes later he saw firefighters pull the victim from the home.
Mahoney said the woman was pulled from the rear of the second floor.
“All in all, we’ve done well and no injuries to firefighters. Just sadly, we do have one victim at Rhode Island hospital at this time.”
