First man indicted in under RI Kristen’s Law

NEWPORT, RI (WLNE) – Rhode Island has made their first indictment under Kristen’s Law, which gives judges the option to send dealers to prison for life if they supply a user with a fatal overdose.
On March 8 , 2019, the Newport Country Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Cary Pacheco, 54, of Westport, MA, with one count of delivering a controlled substance (fentanyl), with death resulting.
Pacheco was also charged with three counts of delivering a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy.
The alleged acts occurred in Newport sometime between September 10 and November 29, 2018. The Newport Police Department conducted the investigation
The defendant is currently being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institute and is scheduled to be arraigned on March 14 in Newport County Superior Court.
