FIRST ON 6: Warwick home destroyed in 2 alarm blaze

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A pile of rubble is all that remains after a 2-alarm fire Tuesday night destroyed a two-family home in Warwick.
Crews responded the one-family house on Royal Avenue in the Conimicut section of the city just after 11:00 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, and ABC6 News was told the fire spread very quickly, with plumes of smoke visible in the sky.
The homeowner, Michael Spooner, spoke with ABC6 News Wednesday saying “I lost everything. I have nothing but the clothes people donated to me yesterday.”
“I saw a ball of fire that was unbelievable, smoke, my face was black, soot,” said Spooner.
One person who lived in the home was injured and taken to Rhode Island Hospital, listed in serious condition. No one else was hurt.
“We had heavy fire when 1st 2 companies arrived. One person was transported with serious injuries to the lower body. That person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is in serious condition at this time,” said Fire Chief James McLaughlin, Warwick Fire Department.

A next-door neighbor described seeing a man, on fire, jumping from the home.
Several streets were blocked to traffic as a result.
The Red Cross is assisted the family who lived there.
“I’m grateful to the Red Cross they put us up, got everything together now I can go to the VA, Citizens Bank and do everything I have to do,” said a neighbor, Veronica Tubman.
Two birds died in the fire, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
