First responder seriously injured after hit-and-run in Coventry

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A first responder was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run in Coventry on Wednesday night.

Western Coventry Fire Department Chief James Cady said crews were responding to a medical call on Victory Highway at the time of the crash around 9 p.m.

As first responders exited an emergency vehicle, a car hit the side of the truck, severely injuring one of the crew members.

The first responder was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, and another crew member was taken to Kent County Hospital for a check-up, according to Cady.

Cady said the Coventry Police Department is investigating the incident.
