First week of Karen Read retrial set to wrap up Friday

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Testimony will pick back up Friday morning in the murder retrial of Karen Read.

This week, John O’Keefe’s friends and family were called testify about that night in 2022 when the former Boston police officer was killed.

Now, we’re hearing from first responders who arrived on scene.

Canton paramedic Daniel Whitley was first to take the stand, and one of read’s defense attorneys aggressively cross-examined him.

A state trooper also took the stand Thursday and revealed texts between Karen Read and John O’Keefe hours before O’Keefe’s death.

One of the messages was read asking O’Keefe if he was interested in someone else, saying “I can’t think of any other reason you’ve been like this.”

O’Keefe responded by saying “things haven’t been great between us for a while.”
