Saturday marked the kickoff of the freshwater fishing season in Rhode Island.
Opening day officially started at 6 a.m. Saturday. The Department of Environmental Management released 80,000 trout in ponds and streams across the state.
We caught up with some excited anglers at Olney Pond in Lincoln, anxious to dust off their fishing rods and hit the water.
“It’s just looking forward for opening day, when they stock the pond. You have a chance of catching the fish,” said David Quinlan of Cranston.
This year, trout are also being stocked at Potter Hill Landing in Ashaway and two areas on the Ten Mile River in East Providence.
