Five Providence residents being assisted by Red Cross after fire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Five occupants of a home on Ashton St. in Providence are now being assisted by the Red Cross following a fire, officials confirm.
Chief Steve Capracotta said the Providence Fire Department responded to a call of a fire from a neighbor around 8:08 p.m. Tuesday. The structure in flames was a one-story addition over the garage adjacent to a two-story home.
Firefighters had to shut off power to the entire house in order to fight the flames.
Chief Capracotta confirmed the addition is a total loss. He said the house will eventually be livable, but right now there is too much smoke damage.
The Red Cross is assisting the house’s five occupants until the house is livable again.
The fire was under control by 8:32 p.m.
