Flash Flood Warning & Flood Watch Issued for Southern New England

With the heavy rain expected, we are in a Flood Watch through 5pm TUESDSAY. This long-duration and occasionally heavy rainfall event has the potential to bring 3-5″ of rainfall by the time the watch ends Tuesday evening. We can expect flooding of creeks, streams and some rivers due to heavy rainfall and rapid runoff accumulation. Poor drainage and urban flooding is also expected, especially in low-lying areas. There is a Flash Flood Warning issued for southern Providence County and portions of Kent County. We have the potential to pick up 1-2″ of rainfall very quickly with an intense area of rainfall moving through. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Providence, Warwick, Cranston, East Providence, Coventry, West Warwick, Johnston, Bristol, Somerset, Barrington, Swansea, Seekonk, Rehoboth, Warren, Scituate, West Greenwich and Foster. The National Weather Service estimates the Flash Flood Warning will expire at 7:30pm, but some extensive water on the roadways will undoubtedly make for slow travel throughout the area.
