Flood watch underway with rain throughout the region
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Heavy rain is falling on Southern New England this morning with flood warnings being put in place.
Many businesses on Branch Avenue have prepared by placing sandbags outside ahead of the heavier rain.
Those businesses are prepared for the worst after they’ve seen some of the heavy rain we’ve received already this year.
They’re taking the necessary precautionary steps to flood-proof their businesses with sand bags along the entranceways and windows of the buildings.
Flood-proofing homes is a good strategy, or be ready to treat them as a result of the flooding.
If your home takes on water, dry everything between 24 and 48 hours to avoid the possibility of mold.
Be sure to have emergency kits read with food, water, flashlights, batteries and any medicines you might need.
Keep a look out for fallen debris like trees or power lines that could get knocked over in the storm.
Drivers taking to the roads need to watch out for flooded roads in some areas.
A lot of drivers are going to encounter some ponding and floodwater today, and there are some important tips to know to stay safe on the roads to avoid getting stuck.
If you are coming up on a flooded road, don’t risk driving through it and getting stuck in the water.
If you do end up stuck, get out of your car immediately.
Be careful of hydroplaning and take it slowly on the roads so you aren’t caught in a dangerous situation.
