Third times the charm for Olympic swimmer and North Kingstown high school graduate Elizabeth Beisel. She competed in Bejing, as well as the London Olympics, where she was a two time medalist. Now the question this year, could the u.s. team captain bring a gold back to the ocean state? Her former high school coach has no doubt.
"She is one of a kind, and it’s so great to see her do as well as she has," says North Kingstown Swimming Coach Kathy Carlson.
Carlson reflects on Beisels time at North Kingstown, describing her as a stand out athlete.
"She did really well for us. She swam a lot of events obviously. Some of her records still stand at the URI pool that she swam at for us," says Carlson.
The 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly just a few of the many records she holds. Carlson says Beisels attitude and accomplishments are something many can look up to.
"You have to be dedicated and you have to be willing to sacrifice things in order to achieve to success that Elizabeth has. It’s great, it inspires many, many young female athletes, not just swimming in general. I mean it can be anything."
