Former Gabriel House resident files lawsuit against facility in wake of deadly fire

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A former Gabriel House resident has filed a lawsuit against the Fall River assisted living facility.

According to a lawsuit filed on Monday, Steven Oldrid lived in a studio apartment at the Gabriel House.

The lawsuit says Oldrid was trapped in his studio room during the fire on July 13 and suffered smoke inhalation and respiratory distress before passing out.

The lawsuit also alleges the facility’s condition caused Oldrid to, “suffer injury to an already compromised physical state.”

Oldrid’s suit also accuses the Gabriel House of not being properly staffed or managed before the fire.

This is not the first legal move in the wake of the fire.

John Morgan of the national firm Morgan and Morgan confirmed to reporters that another resident’s family has his firm on retainer.
