A former Attleboro Girl Scout treasurer is accused of stealing cash and cookies from a local troop.

Police say Renee Challenger, 31, is charged with one count of larceny and embezzlement.

Challenger is accused of stealing more then $700 in cash and cookies after Girl Scout officials contacted police in March when she failed to turn over the balance of a bank account she had control over.

Challenger claims she mailed the organization a check but Girl Scout officials told police they did not receive it.

She was arrested Sunday and released on $500 cash bail. She is due back in court in June.
