Former Hasbro employee who was laid off asking for help paying fiancé’s medical expenses
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A 25-year Hasbro employee who was one of 100 other layoffs as part of the company’s “streamlining” has started a GoFundMe to help pay for his fiancé’s medical expenses.
John Warden was a director of design at the company before being cut in order to “empower teams to make quicker decisions and deliver innovation faster.”
He said that now he and his fiancé Meaghan Elderkin need help paying for the medication to help treat her Crohn’s Disease.
“She has survived a total of 20 lower abdominal surgeries in the past 15 years, ranging from untangling her lower intestines to resections to splice living tissue together,” Warden said. “And while she is able to digest food, the scar and nerve damage from the surgeries cause her to be in a constant state of pain.”
He added that Skyrizi helps keep her disease stabilized, but a single two-month dose costs $21,017.34.
“Without it to stabilize her Crohn’s, she runs the risk of another abdominal surgery which costs an average of $114,000,” the GoFundMe reads.
At the time of writing, the fundraiser has already raised $13,400 towards its goal.
