Former Kansas sheriff’s deputy surrenders to Fall River court on obscene matter to a minor warrant

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A former Kansas sheriff’s deputy surrendered in Fall River District Court Friday after a joint investigation by Kansas and Massachusetts law enforcement into his alleged inappropriate relationship with a Massachusetts juvenile.

Garrett Gayoso 24, was arraigned on charges of obscene matter to a minor, pose/exhibit a child in the nude and pose/exhibit a child in a sexual act, according to the Bristol County Sheriff’s office.

Gayoso was given $1,000 cash bail by the court and conditions of release including abstaining from social media use and avoiding contact with the victim.

The prosecution initially requested $10,000 cash bail and the agreed upon conditions while Gayoso requested personal recognizance.

The joint investigation into Gayoso began on April 28, 2025 after Fall River police notified Cherokee County about Gayoso’s alleged contact with the juvenile.

The investigation was conducted by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Massachusetts law enforcement.

The investigation resulted in a May 9 Bristol County District Attorney’s office arrest warrant for Gayoso on the charge of obscene material.

Gayoso was placed on administrative leave and then resigned from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The warrant entered the national law enforcement database with nationwide extradition on May 13, and Cherokee County personnel made efforts to take Gayoso into custody.

Cherokee County later learned that Gayoso had planned to surrender himself to Massachusetts law enforcement.

His next court appearance will be on July 17.
