NEW YORK (WLNE) — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was slapped by a grocery store employee Sunday.

According to CNN, the 78-year-old was campaigning for his son at a Shop Rite in Staten Island. The employee walked up to him and said “what’s up scumbag?”

Giuliani managed to stay on his feet but was thankful he didn’t fall and injure his head.

Store security responded and turned the 39-year-old employee to the NYPD.

New York gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani believes the attack was politically motivated.
