Former police officer charged in female cyclist’s death released on bail

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The former Providence police officer who was arrested after allegedly hitting and killing a cyclist in North Kingstown was released on bail.
59-year-old Daniel Famiglietti was charged with driving under the influence, resulting in death.
He was released on $20,000 surety bail, meaning he only had to pay $2,000.
Famiglietti was with the Providence Police Department for 34 years before retiring in 2022.
The victim, 53-year female Linda Sherman, died after Famiglietti allegedly struck her while driving on Boston Neck Road on June 20.
The crash is currently under investigation by the North Kingstown Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Detective Division.
