Former Providence Police Chief Dean Esserman has resigned his current post as Chief of the New Haven Police Department.

Esserman was previously on paid leave, and then temporary sick leave, amid allegations he berated a 19-year-old waitress at a local restaurant.

In 2014, he confronted an usher at a Yale football game.

While Chief in Providence, Esserman was suspended without pay for a day in 2011 for a confrontation with a sergeant.
