Former Rhode Island chief medical examiner banned from dog bite testimony to take stand

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Judge Beverly Cannone is sticking to her ruling, limiting the testimony of the former chief medical examiner of Rhode Island.

Karen Read’s defense team filed another motion, asking the judge to reconsider her ruling banning Dr. Elizabeth Laposata from testifying about dog bites and claw scratches.

The defense also can’t include any photos of animal bites during Laposata’s testimony.

Laposata is a medical examiner who specializes in forensic pathology.

Defense attorney Alan Jackson filed the motion saying not allowing the testimony would be “intentional fraud,” also saying the prosecution has asked previous witnesses about dog bites and Laposata’s reports.

Laposata, though, has not provided any background on her dog bite expertise and is back on the witness stand Tuesday.

The defense plans to call one more witness.

After that, the prosecution will begin their rebuttal of witnesses’ testimonies.
