Former Rhode Island man sentenced to 10 years for methamphetamine trafficking
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said that a 49-year-old former Rhode Island man and career offender has been sentenced to a further ten years in federal prison for trafficking multiple kilos of methamphetamine.
49-year-old Carl Sharp, of Peoria, Arizona, was charged with distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
He pled guilty to the charge on Oct. 15, 2024, and was sentenced to 120 months of incarceration to be followed by five years of federal supervised release.
Sharp was previously accused of mailing a total of 4.44 kilograms of methamphetamine and 249 grams of cocaine through the U.S. Postal Service.
Cunha said that previously convicted and incarcerated on unrelated charges involving, among other things: drug trafficking, domestic violence, and assault.
Sharp also previously faced a murder charge, but was acquitted of that charge after a key witness in the case died.
