Former RI State Trooper dies from injuries sustained in violent North Attleborough crash
NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police are mourning the loss of a retired trooper who was fighting for his life in the hospital after a violent crash in North Attleborough back in August.
According to Robert Creamer, a spokesperson for RISP, 61-year-old Corporal James Griffin died Tuesday from injuries he sustained in a crash on Route 95 north.
Back on Aug. 28, Massachusetts State Police responded to the area of Exit 7 on Rt. 95 for a reported crash with serious injuries.
After investigating, officials determined that a 2006 Buick LaCrosse, driven by a 50-year-old Joseph Pompei, of Cranston, crashed into a Cadillac Escalade, driven by Griffin.

After being struck, Griffin lost control, entered the median, and struck a 2015 Jaguar XJ, driven by a 58-year-old man from Foxborough who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Pompei was charged with negligent motor vehicle operation, leaving the scene of an accident — death resulting, and two counts of the leaving the scene of an accident, causing personal injury. Massachusetts State Police said they found him a short distance away from the crash.
It is unsure at this time if Pompei will face additional charges in connection to Griffin’s death.
