Former Seekonk Postmaster accused of stealing $19,000 in money orders, using funds for casino trips

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A former Seekonk Postmaster has been charged with the alleged theft of $19,000 via no-fee money orders, according to the United States Attorney’s Office District of Massachusetts.

Bethany LeBlanc, 48, of Seekonk, has been charged with one count of theft of government money and is set to appear in Boston federal court Friday.

LeBlanc held the role of Seekonk Postmaster from November 2023 until February of 2025, having worked for the U.S. Postal Service in several roles.

During her time as Postmaster, LeBlanc had the authority to issue and approve no fee money orders, which are issued only for the purpose of paying USPS-related expenses.

LeBlanc allegedly used this ability to generate 25 no fee money orders to herself totaling $19,917, presenting false invoices for USPS expenses to Seekonk Post Office clerks.

The clerks would then issue LeBlanc the money orders.

False information was allegedly used in this scheme, such as LeBlanc entering “Fire Dept. Box” in the memo section to disguise the money order as a post office expense.

She also used the names of her relatives and associates to avoid detection, according to the U.S. Attorney.

LeBlanc allegedly used the stolen funds for casino trips.

She is facing up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted on these charges.
