Former Senator appears for DUI charge

Former State Senator Stephen Alves was released on bail Tuesday after appearing in court on DUI charges.
Alves, who is from West Warwick, was arrested last Thursday night after he rear-ended a tractor trailer on 146 North in Lincoln.
The driver was taken to the hospital.
Alves failed field sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer.
He will be back in court tomorrow to answer to the refusal charge.
