WAKEFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) – New charges were announced Wednesday against the former Boy Scouts chaplain accused of sexually abusing multiple young men.
James Glawson, 74, of Exeter, was arraigned in 4th Division District Court in Wakefield Wednesday morning on the following new charges:
- First-Degree Sexual Assault
- First-Degree Child Molestation
- Second-Degree Child Molestation
These new charges are tacked on to the charges Glawson already faces.
State Police said Glawson was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America from 1980 through 2018, serving as an assistant Catholic chaplain and Eucharistic minister at the Yawgoog Scout Reservation, a Boy Scout summer camp in Hopkinton.
Glawson was arrested in February and charged with three counts of First-Degree Sexual Assault and one count of Second-Degree Sexual Assault for allegedly assaulting a disabled 18-year-old.
In March, the former Boy Scout chaplain was once again arraigned, this time on eight additional counts of First-Degree Sexual Assault.
Those charges involve three alleged victims, including two who were 13 years or younger, according to court records.
Rhode Island State Police said the charges in Wednesday’s arraignment were reported by a single victim.
No plea was given in court Wednesday, and Glawson was ordered held without bail as per recommendation from State Police. He is due back in court April 17 for status and bail hearings.
